Shadalene Adamos

by Jasmine Conrad

Super model Adriana Lima said, "Be sure about yourself. Fashion is not just beauty, its about good attitude. You have to believe in your self and be strong."

The fashion industry is a notoriously ruthless arena. With an intense aura of competition that surrounds the world of fashion, it takes someone with a lot to offer, as well as immense amounts of confidence, belief and strength.

Every year, UCLA hosts the Fashion and Student Trends Runway Show to give student designers and models a small taste of the larger entree that the world of fashion has to offer them. At this years show, "Illumination," first time designer Shadalene Adamos debuted her line of semi-formal dresses. Regarding her first runway show, Adamos said that it was "amazing and extremely fulfilling...stressful at times, but it paid off when I saw all my dresses on the runway." Adamos's vision and inspiration behind the clothes that she designs are constantly changing Her first line, titled "Concepcion," is named after her grandmother who was a seamstress. The line was a result of an accumulation of sketches gathered over a period of a few months that focused on "semi-formal street wear." She describes the dresses as "more chill, and semi-formal without being stuffy."

For Adamos, fashion has always been one of her passions and interests. When she was little, she was in to Barbies, paper dolls and drawing. She would design and draw outfits for her dolls, and her mom eventually taught her how to sew. Soon, Adamos was able to sew her own clothes, which led her to make her first dress for homecoming.

As for her personal take on fashion and style, Adamos sees it as a "means of self-expression and communication." Her daily personal style communicates that she is a comfortable and classy young woman.

Currently and English major at UCLA, Adamos hopes to graduate this year and maybe go to business school to learn more about entrepreneurship and how to start her own business. On meshing her fashion aspirations with her education, she says that she is "trying to have the nest of both worlds by becoming an educated individual as well as using what I've learned to support my creative outlets, and fashion could definitely be in the picture." Maybe she will start her own fashion brand...so stay tuned for more fabulous designs by Shadalene Adamos.
