Notre Dame Linebacker : Truth or Lies

If your an avid television viewer you may have come across a new show on MTV called "Catfish". A show about online dating where two people fall in love online, one of the two wants to meet up and it usually turns out bad . Well the same thing happened to Notre Dame football linebacker Manti Te'o, or did it?

In September, Te'o reported that his Grandma and his girlfriend Lennay Kekua died days apart and dedicated the rest of the season to them. In his next game, he had a record 12 tackles and led his team on a 20-3 winning streak while still getting sympathy for the recent deaths in his life.

Lennay Kekua

In January, word got out that Lennay Kekua was still alive but didn't even exist in the world of Manti. The pictures of the woman Manti claimed was the love of his life were really of a woman who lived in California who's name is unknown at the moment. There was no evidence of a Lennay Kekua  dying anywhere , no funeral, obituary not even a mention in her school newspaper.

Later, Manti issued a statement claiming he met the girl online and fell deeply in love with her. “This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her. To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone’s sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating. In retrospect, I obviously should have been much more cautious. If anything good comes of this, I hope it is that others will be far more guarded when they engage with people online than I was.”

Was this really a cruel joke? or did Manti just want the publicity? These questions are in the minds of many.  What do you think?
