Vampire and WereWolf Movie Business

 By Charleco Scipio

Twilight, Underworld, Tru Blood, etc. we've all seen one or another. Some of us, me including, have seen nearly all of them. Needless to say, they are only somewhat impressing. The most common flaw of every Vampire/Werewolf movie/show is it focuses a little too much on romance and face sucking and too little on actually making something that can reach farther than the audience of teenage girls. In all honesty, the idea of Vampire and Werewolves is amazing and intriguing but to have to suffer through "I love you" and "I want you but I can kill you" is a strong enough deterrent.
What the industry lacks is a movie that conforms to the traditional Vampire/Werewolf  but also deviates from the Love Dovey crap. Also the Action:Romance BS ratio has to be higher. Many people would not mind a little kissy kissy here, kissy kissy there, if it was surrounded by amazing visual action and suspense. Yet the movies that exist now aren't at the bottom of the totem pole, they just aren't at the top.

Twilight:Vampires
Wonderful book series, no complaints here. Stephenie Meyer is a  great author. I can understand why she made her vampires sparkle in the daylight. Vampires don't mess with daytime, I get it. But a sparkling vampire is not the least intimidating. Not to mention they lack fangs. I might as well be watching a Fairy movie. Yet what saves Twilight's vampires is the fact that they have added abilities that suit their nature. Mind reading, mood changing, foresight, these alone saves them from the Fairy mark.
Twilight:Werewolves
What makes the Twilight series stand out in the theater really are the wolves. They are visually breathtaking. About 4 times larger than the average wolf and remarkably naturalistic. Even down to the fur coat, which is simply amazing. They have to be the best portrayal of a werewolf on the big screen, their only match is the Lycan.

                                                      Tru Blood:Vampires
Are actually Vampires. They burn in the sunlight. They sleep during the day, in coffins, and are active during the night. Oh and they actually have fangs, and they retract. Uber fast and definitely strong, but they aren't immune to silver. Basically they are the typical vampire on television. Really the star of this show is Eric. He is the star vampire on television. Damon (Vampire Diaries) comes in second. (Sorry)
Tru Blood:Werewolves
Tru Blood ranks low when it comes to their werewolves. Why? Well because they're just regular wolves. I can see where the writers were coming from, wereWolf, so lets make it a wolf. But when you have a 5 ft something vampire against a 2-3 ft wolf its just no match.

Underworld:Vampires
Underworld is a prime example of how Vampires should be in movies. Or at least Kate Beckinsale is. Sexy suit, stunning eyes, pale, skilled with weapons, and equipped with the usual Vampire attributes. This movies ranks in seniority when it comes to Vampires on the big screen.
Underworld:Werewolves
Forgive me, I meant Lycans. The only match for Jacob Black and his crew in film. The Lycans in Underworld are amazing. Somewhat larger than Twilight's wolf pack yet not so realistic. They really out did themselves with the debut of the Super Lycan in the recently released Underworld:Awakening.
Underworld is the leading series when it comes to Vampire-Werewolf relations. The Action:LoveyDovey ratio is considerably better compared to Twilight and Tru Blood which both revolve around the main character (always female and always human) falling for a guy (always a vampire). Any movie that is seeking to do better then what has been produced will have to greatly out do Underworld. Not only in the visual aspects but also in story structure. There is marginal space for a top of the line Vampire/Werewolf movie but it isn't here yet.
